Psychometric testing for recruitment: the right instrument for each role

Applying the wrong psychometric test, or applying it without the context of the role, can lead you to hire the wrong profile. At Mexican People HR we select the right instrument for each role —DISC for sales, Cleaver for leadership, 16PF for specialized profiles, Wonderlic for reasoning— and deliver executive reports that any HR leader or operations manager can interpret and act on.

Psychometric instruments we apply

DISC

Behavioral styles (Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, Compliance). Ideal for sales, customer service and teamwork.

Cleaver

Workplace personality profile: how a person behaves in a neutral environment, under pressure and when motivated.

16PF

Cattell's personality factors. Recommended for technical, professional and management profiles.

MBTI

Myers-Briggs psychological type indicator. Useful for team integration and development plans.

Wonderlic / Raven

Cognitive reasoning and problem-solving tests. A strong predictor of fast learning and performance.

Terman / WPA

General intelligence and specific aptitudes. Recommended for profiles that require analysis and processing.

How to choose the right psychometric test?

There is no universal "best test." The choice depends on the goal of the assessment, the level of the position and the organizational culture. For commercial and service profiles we recommend DISC + Cleaver: they reveal relationship style and tolerance for frustration. For technical and professional profiles we apply 16PF + Wonderlic: they combine personality with cognitive ability. For management and executive positions we add a leadership assessment and 360 evaluation.

In high-volume recruitment processes, the most efficient approach is a short battery (DISC + a brief cognitive test) that can be applied online in under 45 minutes. In executive processes, on the other hand, depth matters more than speed, and we apply complete batteries with clinical interpretation.

Frequently asked questions

We answer the most common questions from HR leaders.

How much do psychometric tests cost?
Individual administration ranges from $700 to $1,800 MXN per candidate depending on the instrument. Combined batteries (DISC + Cleaver + reasoning) range from $1,500 to $3,500 MXN. Volume packages (50+ administrations) carry progressive discounts.
How long does it take to get results?
Administration: 30-90 minutes online depending on the instrument. Interpretation and executive report: 24-48 business hours. Rush turnaround in 6-12 hours with a surcharge.
Are the tests applicable to any level of position?
Yes, but the instrument is chosen according to the level: for frontline profiles we use short, practical tests; for professional and management roles we apply deeper instruments; for executives we combine psychometrics with an assessment center and 360 evaluation.
Can the tests be done online or only in person?
Most are administered online with a supervised platform (digital proctoring). Some projective tests or assessment centers require physical presence or a live video call with a psychologist.
Do the tests have cultural biases?
All psychometric tests have potential biases; that's why we use only instruments with Mexican or Latin American norms and interpret them in light of the candidate's cultural context. We always report ranges, not absolute labels.
Who interprets the results?
Licensed psychologists with a professional license (cédula profesional) and specialization in occupational psychology. Each report is reviewed and signed by the responsible psychologist.
